Addressing Misinformation and Clarifying The Vision for an Art Gallery in Welland

Dear Supporters,
I am writing to provide an important update following my attendance at the Visual Artists of Welland meeting on Sunday. During this meeting, I had the opportunity to address and clarify some misinformation regarding our proposal for an art gallery in Welland.
First and foremost, there has been some confusion about the building we have considered for the gallery. While this building, owned by the federal government, is not currently for sale or available, it is crucial to address a specific piece of misinformation: the claim that the building contains asbestos. This is entirely false, as verified by the research and documentation provided above.
However, it's important to emphasize that our vision for the art gallery is not confined to this particular building. Our goal is to establish the gallery in the downtown core of Welland, creating a cultural cornerstone akin to the library, museum, marketplace, and civic square. We need to think beyond the limitations of a single building and focus on the broader vision of enhancing our community's cultural landscape, economic growth, and cultural enrichment.
To those who may feel threatened or resistant to this idea, I want to assure you that this initiative is for the entire community. It is not meant to overshadow or replace existing institutions but to complement and enhance them. The art gallery will be a communal asset, fostering artistic growth, cultural identity, and programming for all demographics.
It's essential to think collectively and consider the greater good of the arts in our community. We should not be swayed by individual interests or misinformation. Instead, let's unite to support a vision that benefits all artists and residents of Welland.
I understand there are voices within the community urging others not to support this initiative unless a specific building is secured first. I urge you to look beyond this narrow focus and recognize the potential for a vibrant art gallery that will serve as a beacon for creativity, inspiration, economic growth, and cultural enrichment in Welland. It's your voice, be heard.
Additionally, I am excited to announce that new updates and developments will soon be unveiled. Stay tuned for more information as we continue to move forward with this exciting project - a true gallery is a dedicated space for exhibiting, celebrating, and engaging with art in a way that enriches our community culturally and artistically.
Thank you for your continued support. Let's work together to make this vision a reality for the betterment of our community.
