The Issue

I'm deeply connected to the rural lifestyle, where farms and ranches serve as the heartbeat of our communities. Growing up in the countryside, I've witnessed firsthand the dedication and resilience of family farmers and ranchers who work tirelessly to feed our nation while preserving the natural beauty of our lands. However, I've also seen how this way of life is increasingly under threat from what society deems as 'progress'. Urban sprawl and industrial developments are encroaching upon our countryside, jeopardizing our cherished privacy, natural resources, and the legacies built by generations before us.

The rise of data centers, in particular, poses a significant threat. These massive structures are typically cooled by hydro-cooling methods, consuming over a million gallons of water daily. This demand for water could potentially disrupt the supply for farmers and ranchers who need it most for agriculture and livestock. Coupled with their substantial land and energy requirements, data centers risk transforming our rural landscapes into industrial zones devoid of their original charm and purpose.

To safeguard our rural lifestyles and ensure the future of agriculture in America, we need to establish "Agriculture Freedom Zones" across the nation. In these zones, data centers would be permanently banned, and any proposal to build a data center within a 50-mile radius would require a vote from all local farmers and ranchers. Moreover, by making farmers and ranchers the primary recipients of water rights, we can prioritize agriculture and ensure our natural resources are judiciously managed.

Creating Agriculture Freedom Zones is not just about preserving land—it's about protecting an entire way of life and ensuring that our nation's legacy of farming and ranching continues to thrive. It is a call to action to uphold the quiet, picturesque countryside that many, like myself, cherish as a sanctuary from the overstimulation of urban living.

Join me in urging policymakers to support the creation of Agriculture Freedom Zones. Together, we can protect our rural communities and ensure a sustainable future for agriculture. Please sign this petition to advocate for the rights of farmers and ranchers and to maintain the balance between progress and preservation.
