The Issue

As an avid thru-hiker, I have traversed thousands of miles across national scenic trails, state scenic trails, and international trails. The beauty and tranquility of these paths have not only enriched my life but also instilled in me a profound respect for our public lands. It is this respect that compels me to petition the Utah State Legislature to establish a footpath-only trail spanning 700-900 miles as a state scenic trail.

Utah's natural beauty is unparalleled, with its diverse landscapes ranging from red rock deserts to alpine forests. However, this beauty is under constant threat from various forms of human activity. A designated footpath-only trail would serve as both a protective measure and an invitation for people to appreciate our state's unique environment responsibly.

The benefits of such an initiative are manifold. Beyond environmental preservation, it would promote physical health and wellbeing among Utahns by encouraging outdoor activities like hiking and backpacking. Moreover, it could boost local economies by attracting tourists who wish to experience the splendor of our landscapes firsthand.

Creating this trail isn't just about preserving land—it's about preserving opportunities for future generations to connect with nature in meaningful ways. Let us ensure that the wonders we enjoy today will be here tomorrow for others to discover.

Join me in urging the Utah State Legislature to designate this footpath-only trail—a step towards safeguarding our natural heritage while promoting responsible enjoyment of our public lands. Please sign this petition!
