Establish A Smoking Zone in Belfast International Airport

The Issue

Many peoples journey through Belfast International Airport has always been somewhat stressful due to the lack of services and they look forward to a smoke in the area designated for smokers. Even though I don't smoke, I believe that, just as individuals are permitted to consume alcohol, people too should be able to take a moment for a smoke before boarding flights. Belfast International Airport, in the interest of promoting inclusive facilities for all, should consider this issue.

Research indicates that airports around the world continue to accommodate this need. According to a 2016 study by The Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 22 of America's largest airports have designated smoking areas, acknowledging the needs of smoking passengers without infringing on the wellbeing of non-smokers (CDC, 2016). This number increases within the European context, with many reputable establishments, such as Charles de Gaulle in Paris and Linate in Milan, providing locations for smokers (EuroNews, 2018). Belfast International Airport, as an International airport, should seek to emulate these best practices.

By implementing designated smoking areas, Belfast International Airport would be taking a significant step in accommodating the needs of a notable portion of its passenger base, effectively improving the overall experience for many. As a longtime advocate for smokers' rights, I urge fellow passengers and supporters to endorse this appeal. Let our voices be heard so that we can promote a positive change within our airport. Sign this petition and help us in our pursuit of designated smoking areas at Belfast International Airport.
