FOR NON-MUSLIMS ONLY

In response to the recent mishaps and chain reactions that have occurred within Holy Mother Church, we respectfully ask our Archbishop to establish a regular Traditional Latin Mass under diocesan authority within the Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu. This request is made so that Catholics devoted to this ancient liturgical tradition may worship in full communion with the local Church. The spirit of this petition is rooted in fidelity, unity, and prayer for our Archbishop and the Holy Father.

The Traditional Latin Mass, also known as the Tridentine Mass, is a profound expression of the Catholic faith’s rich heritage. Its roots trace back to centuries of tradition that has nourished the spiritual lives of countless saints and faithful. The reverence and solemnity embodied in the Traditional Latin Mass provide an irreplaceable spiritual depth that many Catholics continue to cherish deeply.

Despite modern adaptations to liturgical practices, the spiritual needs and devotions of the faithful who are attached to the Traditional Latin Mass have not diminished. This Mass offers a profound sense of continuity with the Church’s historical liturgy, fostering a deep connection to our spiritual ancestors and aiding in the enrichment of our faith today.

While many dioceses around the world have made provisions for this form of worship, it remains absent in our local churches here in Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu. Recognizing the diversity of worship expressions as a strength rather than a division within our Catholic community is a powerful testament to the unity and universality of our faith.

Establishing a regular Traditional Latin Mass would be a significant step towards accommodating the diverse spiritual needs of the faithful in our archdiocese. It would allow us to embody more fully; the unity in diversity that the Catholic faith so beautifully represents. We believe this addition will enhance our archdiocese's spiritual offerings, providing a haven for those who feel called to this path of worship without distancing them from their local Church community.

We urge and ask of His Grace, our dear Archbishop, shepherd of souls – in the spirit of humility, heartful prayer, love and christian synodality – to consider this faithful and heartfelt request from his flock.  It is not only a plea for the preservation of tradition but also an invitation to enrich our community’s spiritual life. Let us continue to worship God in the timeless beauty of the Mass in its ancient form while remaining united under the guidance of our local Church leaders under the Magisterium of His Holiness, The Supreme Pontiff (Pontifex Maximus) our Holy Father. As our previous Holy Father once quoted:

"In the history of the liturgy there is growth and progress, but no rupture. What earlier generations held as sacred, remains sacred and great for us too." (Pope Benedict XVI)

We kindly ask all members of our Catholic community and beyond who feel moved by this cause to sign this petition for a regular Traditional Latin Mass in the Archdiocese of Kota Kinabalu. Together, let's embrace and celebrate the full spectrum of our Catholic liturgical heritage.

2 Thessalonians 2:14 "Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you have learned, whether by word, or by our epistle. "

P.S.

Even if we aren't guaranteed a true Latin Mass in the Tridentine Rite, we at least hope that our Catholic leaders within Sabah understand this plead as a return to true liturgical catholicity in accordance with the Main Document of Vatican II (Sacrosanctum Concillium).  Not all of us fancy the "Spirit of Vatican II"  style devotions or even the Protestant-isation of our sacred liturgy. We too hope this petition will act as a wake-up call to all Catholics in Sabah to seek and understand our rich Christian heritage.
