Establish a Rapid Transit/Subway Network in Oklahoma City

The Issue

I am deeply invested in the development of Oklahoma City, despite not being a resident. It's disheartening to see that the largest city and capital of Oklahoma lacks sufficient public transportation. This is not just about convenience, it's about sustainability and progress. The city is already planning to build a commuter rail network, which shows there's recognition for the need for improved public transit.

Oklahoma City has an estimated population of over 655,000 people (US Census Bureau), all of whom could benefit from a rapid transit/subway network. Such an infrastructure would ease traffic congestion and reduce dependency on automobiles, aligning with national goals for environmental sustainability.

A subway system can be more than just transportation; it can be an economic driver as well. Cities with established subway systems have seen increased economic activity due to easier access to businesses and services (American Public Transportation Association).

Let us urge our local officials in Oklahoma City to consider establishing a rapid transit/subway network. This will not only improve daily commutes but also contribute towards making America less automobile dependent. Please sign this petition if you believe in creating sustainable cities for future generations.
