The Issue

As someone who grew up with limited opportunities in education, particularly for girls in the field of Math, I understand how critical it is for our students to have access to diverse and comprehensive learning experiences. The lack of a multilingual K-8 Charter School in Freehold, New Jersey stands in the way of this for many of our students, especially those with English as a Second Language and Special Needs students. A specialized school would foster an inclusive environment where students could excel in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM).

With an increase in linguistic diversity across our communities - approximately 21% of U.S students speak a language other than English at home - it is more apparent than ever that we need innovative educational solutions to meet these needs (National Center for Education Statistics, 2019).

Children with Special Needs also deserve an education system that nurtures their unique abilities. When tailored for inclusivity, Special Education programs have the potential to reduce the high school dropout rate by an astounding 60% (Council for Exceptional Children, 2020).

By establishing a bilingual K-8 Charter School in Freehold, we can build a strong foundation for all learners, regardless of their first language or unique learning needs. The advantages of multilingualism alongside STEM education will empower them to succeed in an increasingly globalized and competitive workforce.

Join us in advocating for this necessary change. We call upon the Freehold Board of Education to consider our request for a multilingual K-8 Charter School. Sign the petition and help make a difference in our students' lives.
