Many of my friends enlisted in the military, and I want to help honor the brave men and women who served our country. These individuals, some of whom ultimately gave their lives for the freedom of Americans, are currently remembered with just one day of a holiday. I believe they deserve more recognition and honor for their ultimate sacrifice. It’s time to make a change.

Each year, we witness the solemn observances of Memorial Day, a valuable day dedicated to remembering those who have fallen. However, one day is simply not enough to truly reflect on the profound sacrifices made. A single day cannot encapsulate the deep gratitude, respect, and remembrance they deserve. Establishing a Memorial Month dedicated to these valiant soldiers allows more meaningful engagements, reflections, and tributes to take place across the nation.

The month-long observance could incorporate various activities, educational programs, and community events that could paint a fuller picture of the sacrifices made by our military heroes. Schools could engage students in projects that educate them about military history and the importance of remembrance. Local communities could organize displays, parades, and discussions that bring awareness to the contributions of our service members.

Furthermore, a Memorial Month can offer families and friends of fallen soldiers a broader platform to share the stories of their loved ones, ensuring their sacrifices are not forgotten. It provides an opportunity for healing and community support that spans more than just a single day’s ceremony.

According to the U.S. Department of Defense, over 1.3 million American men and women have lost their lives in service since the founding of our nation. The impact of their sacrifice resonates across families, communities, and the tapestry of our nation's history. It is incumbent upon us to solemnify their memory with appropriate regard and sincerity.
