Establish a Live, Interactive Flood Map for the United States

The Issue

Knowing the devastation that floods can bring, I understand how crucial real-time information can be to millions of Americans. Our current flood zone maps are not enough. They lack the comprehensible, timely and pertinent information that can help communities plan and respond to flood events swiftly and efficiently.

Annually, floods cause billions of dollars in damages and disrupt the lives of millions. In the year of 2019 alone, the total flood damages in the United States of America surpassed $3.7 billion. (source: National Centers for Environmental Information). This alarming figure underscores the urgent need for a step forward.

We need an interactive, live updated flood map. A tool that not only shows us the current state of water levels across the country but also gives an insight into future flood events. Comprehensive, accessible, and real-time data can go a long way in helping communities affected by floods, or those at risk, make informed decisions for their safety and well-being.

I ask for your support in this important matter by signing our petition. Together, we can reinforce our preparedness and resilience in face of floods, one of the most common and destructive natural disasters in our nation. Please sign this petition.
