The Issue

As a pet owner, I not only bear witness but also experience the stressful impact of spatial restrictions on my dog's health and social life. Our canine companions are reduced to fleeting interactions on already crowded footpaths, amidst numerous food stalls and street side vendors, which hardly suffices their needs for social interaction and exercise.

We are moving toward smaller living spaces and towering high rises which barely provide ample space for our dogs to freely roam and play. This pressing concern calls for a reallocation of public spaces that can cater to our four-legged family members and allow them to fully experience outdoor life.

Our plea revolves around designating a small, fenced patch of land within Lalbagh Botanical Gardens as a dog park. Doing so will open gates for numerous benefits. Not only will it foster more significant social interaction among dogs, but it will ensure their physical well-being. According to a study by PLOS One, off-leash parks contribute positively to dog behavioral welfare. Additionally, a study published in BMC Veterinary Research in 2017 highlighted the importance of such spaces in promoting dog’s physical health and decreasing obesity.

By allowing a dog park in Lalbagh Botanical Gardens, we're not merely pushing for a pet-friendly initiative. We're advocating for a kinder society, one that acknowledges and respects every living being's need for happiness, joy, and well-being. Let's seek inclusivity not just for ourselves, but for our pets who deserve just as much love and space.

Please sign this petition, help us initiate this change, and provide our dogs with the rich social and physical life they dutifully deserve.
