The Issue

I write this petition as an unpaid carer for my mother, responsible for her well-being every hour of every day. Like me, millions of others bear the weight of caring for a loved one, a duty that is not only emotionally and physically demanding, but sometimes financially destructive. The burden is relentless and the impact on mental and physical health is considerable. Currently,  there is no central route to access and identify the support and carers are left isolated to spend their precious time navigating internet sites, waiting in call queues and trying to find the support they are eligible for.
We propose the establishment of a central hub for unpaid carers where they can access comprehensive support and advice. This hub should integrate with charities, local government, and the NHS, identify eligibility for benefits and bring together the best advice and support in one accessible place. According to Carers UK, approximately 1 in 8 adults (nearly 9 million people) are carers. Every single day, 6000 people take on a new caring role - many of them plunged into a situation they’re entirely unprepared for.
Let's come together to change this narrative. No carer should struggle to find resources or feel isolated in their journey. Establishing a centralised support hub is a crucial step towards putting in place the support network that we, as carers, so urgently need.

Easing the load for unpaid carers will ease pressure on the NHS, not just by insuring the care they provide to another, but by protecting their own health.  Preventing carers from incurring unnecessary debt reduces additional stress and an additional raft of people facing financial hardship.  Unpaid carers already save the UK economy an estimated £162 billion (Financial Fairness Trust) - virtually a whole new NHS.  Please, sign this petition to show your support for unpaid carers and help us build this much-needed resource.
