The Issue

As an artist manager, I have witnessed artists being hindered from street performing throughout the city of Atlanta. Street performing is not just an artistic expression but also a significant source of income for many of Atlanta's talented creative population. The vibrant arts scene in our city is a testament to the incredible talents of our musicians, dancers, painters, and performers who add life to our streets and neighborhoods. However, without clear guidelines or a formal licensing system, these artists often face unnecessary obstacles and legal challenges while trying to share their talents with the public.

Currently, the lack of a structured busking license in Atlanta creates confusion and inconsistency in enforcement, leading performers to be unfairly targeted and penalized. Busking is a time-honored tradition in cities around the world, from New York to London, where it is celebrated and embraced as part of the urban culture. To sustain and nurture Atlanta's rich cultural heritage, we need to support our local artists and provide them with the means to perform legally and without fear of retribution.

By establishing a formal busking license, the city council can create a win-win situation: performers get the freedom to express their art openly, and the city can ensure that performances are conducted safely and in accordance with local laws. This system would provide a clear framework that protects the interests of both artists and the public, fostering a more inclusive community that celebrates outdoor performances.

I urge the Atlanta City Council to recognize the value these street artists bring to our city and to take the necessary steps to implement a busking license. This would not only enhance the city's cultural appeal but also provide a sustainable livelihood for our artists. Join me in supporting this initiative to help Atlanta's creative community thrive. Please sign this petition to make a positive change for our artists and enrich the cultural landscape of Atlanta. Thank you for your support.
