Read the Report on Boxted Bridge to be discussed at the Development & Regulation committee meeting this Friday 27 February at 10.30.
The report says "The load testing undertaken in September 2025 sought to assess how much weight the bridge could safely withstand. The results of this were then reviewed
and assessed by the applicant who subsequently determined that it was safe to reopen
the bridge, but only to pedestrian and cyclist traffic over a two-metre-wide
section through the centre of the bridge."
But Essex Highways quote a different purpose of the test on page 1, 1.1 of the Technical Note
“The purpose of the test was to evaluate the bridge’s suitability for potential re-opening for pedestrians and cyclists”
It was not load tested for vehicle use. Our expert advises that one proper test can provide decisive unbiased evidence, whether the bridge remains fit or the purpose of carrying vehicles as well as pedestrians. With your support we will make sure such a test is carried out. Please support our Crowdfunder appeal Let's Get Boxted Bridge Tested for Vehicles'
