Public Spaces Protection Order - September 5th 2022 Start Date
Hello everyone, it’s been a long time coming but the Public Spaces Protection Order is coming into force on the 5th September.
From the Council:
“ A new Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) is being put in place for the Roscommon Way area of Canvey Island to prevent vehicle related anti-social behaviour.
The PSPO will be live from 5th September and will be in place for 3 years. Any person found breaching it is liable to be issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice of £l00 or on summary conviction to a maximum penalty of a Level 3 fine.

A lot of you will know I’ve been campaigning for this issue to be sorted now for well over 8 years with some residents suffering for over 10 years.
It’s an emotive subject, to the point some Green headed boy racer thought he’d square up to me whilst I delivered leaflets promoting this very petition. These people clearly think they can act with impunity but clearly he didn’t know my job or my background.
The future:
Thank you so much to those that used this petition to voice their concerns and for those that signed the paper petition also. I also thank those that responded to the PSPO consultation.
I have no doubt this will not be the final end to the issue but I do believe this is the first step.
If this order does not work, I will be seeking legal advice on how to best proceed. I had a consultation with a local solicitor prior to the implementation of this order who said residents have grounds for complaint, so please watch this space should issues continue.
Thanks again
Billy
