Again, I really appreciate everyone’s effort to support this campaign.

Today, I want to talk about something that would be relevant to this petition: other “M”-rated games that happen to have ports and/or remakes that are “T”-rated.

As you may already know, the original Mortal Kombat game (Particularly the Sega Genesis version.) caused an uproar of controversy back in the early 1990’s and that controversy lead to the creation of the ERSB rating system. At that time, a different video game also took part in that very controversy. That game was Night Trap. Just like the aforementioned Mortal Kombat game, Night Trap was rated “M” as soon as the ESRB came into existence. Jumping ahead to more recent years, Night Trap was remade for more recent platforms. (PS4, Xbox One, Switch, etc.) The ESRB rated the remake version “T” rather than “M” and not only that, it retained all the original content from the original version that sparked the controversy and also included some content that was never seen from before. That’s an example of a “M”-rated game that has a remake/port that happens to be “T”-rated.

Another example of a “M”-rated game that has a “T”-rated counterpart is Forsaken. (Not to be confused with Destiny 2’s expansion Forsaken.) When the game was originally released for PC, the PS1 and the N64, Forsaken got an “M”-rating due to a violent cutscene and the playable character’s death animation. Last year, Forsaken got remastered. Not only did the remaster came out for PC, it also came out for MacOS, Linux and the Xbox One. In addition, the remaster got a “T”-rating and managed to retain all the original content from the original version, including the said cutscene and death animation.

Do you think these games have truly earned a “T”-rating rather than a “M”-rating? Do you think that their re-ratings would justify on how tame that the “M”-rated Halo games are and to also justify that all of them would’ve been better off with “T”-ratings instead after all these years? Do you think that the said re-ratings would also justify that Halo: The Master Chief Collection should be better off with a “T”-rating and that the ESRB should give the PC version of the MCC a “T”-rating that it absolutely deserves?
