CALL TO ACTION: KOFI NEEDS URGENT MEDICAL CARE

Dear Friends and Supporters,

Kofi needs us again.

First, an update we owe you: Kofi's clemency petition was denied. Thank you to every one of you who signed, shared, and spoke up. Your support meant the world to Kofi and our family.

Hope is not lost! We're working with his lawyers on other strategies to help him gain his freedom, and we'll share more when we can.

Right now, though, Kofi needs you urgently. After about a month of ignored requests for medical care, he was rushed to the ER on October 21 for an emergency procedure and spent several days in the ICU on IV antibiotics. Since he returned to Wabash Valley Correctional Facility on October 24, no one has checked his incision or changed his surgical wound dressing, which puts him at serious risk of infection.

CALL TO ACTION:  No matter where you live, please take 5 minutes today to:

  1. Call Governor Braun's office: 317-232-4567
  2. Email IDOC Commissioner Lloyd Arnold's office: JrWilliams@idoc.in.gov, and CC clemencyforkofi@gmail.com
  3. If you live in Indiana, call your State Representative. Find them at iga.in.gov → Find Your Legislator

Use this script for your call or email. For emails, use the subject line "Urgent: medical care for Kofi Ajabu, IDOC #955750."

As your constituent, I'm contacting your office about Kofi Ajabu, IDOC #955750, at Wabash Valley Correctional Facility. After a month of ignored requests for medical care, he was rushed to the ER on October 21 for an emergency procedure and spent several days in the ICU. Since he returned to the prison on October 24, no one has checked his incision or changed his surgical dressing. An untreated wound can become infected, and an infection can spread to the bloodstream and become life-threatening.

I'm asking your office to contact Wabash Valley and Centurion Health, the prison's medical provider, today and ensure:

  • his incision is examined today by medical or nursing staff
  • a nurse teaches him how to change his own dressing and gives him the supplies to do it daily, per post-surgical standard of care

Can you tell me who in your office will follow up?

Then comment here to let us know you called or emailed.

Thank you so much in advance and for all you've already done.  Your support means more than you know.

-Nzinga on behalf of Kofi and our entire family
