Today is my brother’s clemency hearing.
At 8:30am
I set my alarm for 6:00
I slept until 5:00 - which an hour longer than I predicted
I’m anxious, hopeful, tearful, overwhelmed
We won’t get the decision today. The parole board will make their confidential recommendation to the Governor between 30 and 60 days from today.
We will never know what the recommendation is but pray that the parole board sees my brother’s heart today and all of your support for the last two weeks and are compelled to make a YES recommendation.
The Governor has no formal timeline in which he has to make a decision. So we don’t know when (or if) we will get an answer.
We do know clemency is moonshot. It is an extraordinary grace very infrequently granted in Indiana. And so, we must all have extraordinary faith 🙏🏾
My dear friend Melanie Storrusten who has grown to know my brother well over the last decade text me last night. I immediately screenshot it and sent it to Debo. WE RECEIVE THIS ENERGY!!!!
Please take a moment today and do whatever it is you believe in - thoughts, prayers, energy work ALL of the things. Please do it in honor of Nick, Lisa and Chris - the young people who lost their loves to this senseless tragedy. Please do it for their families and loved ones - today’s hearing re-opens the wounds of their losses. Please do it for the parole board - we need their hearts to be moved. Please do it for Governor Braun - he has tall political hill to climb. And of course, for my brother, who after 32 years in prison is still the quiet, loving, introspective, and thoughtful person he has always been.
We receive it all. Amen. 🙏🏾
