DEADLINE: January 12, 2025 is the last day Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb can grant clemency to my brother, Kofi M. Ajabu who has been in prison for 30 years for murders he did not commit. 

Clemency's legal purpose is for the Executive Branch (the Governor) to correct over-sentencing by the Judicial Branch (the Court). The Prosecutors, the Supreme Court and the Foreman of the Jury who convicted Kofi all agree this is a case of over-sentencing. 

• The Prosecutors offered Kofi a plea deal that would result in 20 years served, but he would have had to admit to murder. He refused to admit to murder and instead went to trial.   Kofi has been in prison for 30 years. 
• The Indiana Supreme Court overturned his sentence of Life Without Parole because there was not evidence Kofi committed murder, but the court re-sentenced him to 240 years which is the same thing. 
• Orvan Mabie, Jr., the Foreman of the Jury that convicted him saw the evidence, and never believed Kofi committed murder, but had to convict him because of the way the law was written.  That law has since been re-written. Orvan is now leading the call for clemency. 

And so, rationally, the decision to grant clemency is easy.  That said, we understand that emotionally and politically, the decision is not easy, which is why Governor Holcomb needs to know he has your support to use clemency for its rightful purpose <3.
