Yesterday, I shared this post in my Facebook feed: "Remember, it didn't start with gas chambers. It started with politicians dividing the people with us vs. them. It started with intolerance and hate speech and when people stopped caring, became desensitized and turned a blind eye." So, rather than hide the ugliness that humanitarians face daily at the hands of those who vehemently oppose housing, feeding, or helping the homeless, I'm going to expose it. Yes, your tax dollars [millions per year] are being used by the City of Los Angeles to fight the numerous lawsuits that civil rights attorney Carol Sobel warned are unconstitutional. Los Angeles City Councilman Joe Buscaino appointed George Palaziol to a San Pedro Homelessness Task Force. Source: http://www.dailybreeze.com/social-affairs/20150916/san-pedro-homelessness-task-force-members-named Yet George Palaziol (who runs a few Facebook pages) hasn't been helping homeless people at all. It appears that his mission (along with his partner, Joanne Rallo) is to exploit and humiliate homeless people and anyone who helps them. But lately, it's been catching up with them. On April 5th, 2016, District 15 Councilman Joe Buscaino and founders of the Facebook group, Saving San Pedro, were dealt a cease-and-desist letter, requesting a halt to “defamatory statements” against local homeless people. Source: http://www.randomlengthsnews.com/joe-buscaino-saving-san-pedro But Joanne Rallo did not appear and the lawyer who attended (on her behalf, I guess) "fell asleep". The case is moving forward and the next court date is May 20th, 2016. And I've been appalled at how everyone in this fight for basic human rights has been targeted. In this Google Plus post, I exposed how George Palaziol even set up a phony Facebook account pretending to be me: https://plus.google.com/u/0/107889574670988423996/posts/LRxmuz1AwKm And even though others (and myself) have reported it to Facebook (along with numerous other harassing posts on their Saving San Pedro and Saving San Pedro Homeless Enablers public groups), Facebook has responded with: "We reviewed your report of Rose Rights Wrongs [or Saving San Pedro or Saving San Pedro Homeless Enablers]. Go to your Support Inbox to learn more. Thank you for taking the time to report something that you feel may violate our Community Standards. Reports like yours are an important part of making Facebook a safe and welcoming environment. We reviewed the Page you reported for harassment and found it doesn't violate our Community Standards." Which is why I have included Facebook in this petition. Notably, I just read a Trending CBC News report titled "Facebook to notify users of impersonating profiles" which apparently is "part of efforts to make women feel safer using the website". Source: http://www.cbc.ca/news/trending/facebook-will-now-alert-you-of-impersonating-profiles-1.3504442 Yet in this Mashable post (dated March 22nd, 2016) by Marissa Bell: http://mashable.com/2016/03/22/facebook-impersonation-alert/#58g8dwxEpgqg she informs us: "While impersonation isn't necessarily a widespread problem on Facebook, it is a source of harassment on the platform, despite the company's longstanding policy against it. (Impersonation also falls under the social network's names policy, which requires people to use an authentic name.)" I'm stunned that George Palaziol's Facebook page using Carrot Top's image to impersonate me has not been taken down by Facebook – nor are the countless harassing posts and photos (some which show partial nudity) in the Saving San Pedro Facebook group (and other Facebook pages run by him). Oddly, Joanne Rallo seemed overly confident that Facebook will take no action. Check out her response to this March 15th, 2016 post by Noel Vuoso: https://plus.google.com/u/0/107889574670988423996/posts/2VZCYk59jux Joanne Rallo stated: "A supporter of that scam artist Michael Grissom obviously has a problem with this because we're blasting their information on our page and they think by reporting it to Facebook is going to make a difference. Haha nice try!" I had no idea who Michael Grissom is, so I Googled his name and found a 48-second YouTube video (published Feb 29th, 2016) where he recorded a live statement from a homeless woman named Annie Turner. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcSMP2_7P0M&feature=youtu.be She stated: "They talk about poisoning us, on Facebook. How is that possible?" Poisoning the homeless. Think about that for a minute. Half the population of the U.S. is living at or below the poverty level. It doesn't take much for any of us to become homeless. Yesterday, I also commented on an LA Times Readers React piece titled "Cops who want to help the homeless should put away their guns" http://www.latimes.com/opinion/readersreact/la-le-0427-wednesday-police-homeless-guns-20160427-story.html And uuser3735 (the same person who claimed s/he 'shut down' my Facebook page for being "spammy") wrote: "Living next and within a few feet of homeless encampments is dangerous." Really? If it is dangerous, then why does the Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority (LAHSA) asks for a thousand volunteers to "go out by car and on foot to scour South Los Angeles to tally up the number of homeless, from 8 pm to midnight over the course of three days?" The LAHSA also added, "This has proven in past years to be perfectly safe, and essential to receive federal funding." Source: http://www.westadams-normandie.com/content/volunteers-needed-january-29-south-los-angeles-homeless-count And it didn't take me long to discover these two documents from the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles (worth a read): http://clkrep.lacity.org/onlinedocs/2014/14-1656-S1_misc_1-25-2016.pdf http://clkrep.lacity.org/onlinedocs/2014/14-1656-S1_pc_1_3-18-16.pdf After reading through those letters, you'll understand why I've also added Barbara Schultz, Director of Litigation & Policy and Shayla Myers from the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles. Plus, I've added the following people from HUD (United Sates Department of Housing and Urban Development): Harriet Tregoning, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Community Planning and Development; Norman Suchar, Director, Office of Special Needs Assistance Programs; and Tonya Proctor, Deputy Director, Office of Special Needs Assistance Program. "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." ~ Edmund Burke Please sign and share this petition. For those outside of Los Angeles, feel free to start your own petition based on this one. I believe we, as a global society, are too intelligent and caring to be "dumbed down" enough to repeat the same crimes against humanity as in our past. Take good care, Rose
