Update on the Hollyridge Re-pavement.
They have completed the preliminary work. Asphalt repave only.
They stopped just before the massive bump at the Pelham stairs and Pelham Dr.
I have confirmed that the big pine tree roots on the private property caused the Pelham bump. The city will not cut those roots or repave that section because they will not take responsibility if something should happen to the tree and damage the home. The homeowner would have to sign a waiver absolving the city of any potential future damage or remove the tree. Its a legal issue for the city and the homeowner.
When I began the campaign to complete this, I included Hollyridge and the loop at Canyon. It also included Alt-view terrace, Pelham, Lapham, Rutherford, and all the connected streets.
Everything south of what's completed is now in a different public works jurisdiction. My understanding is that The Beachwood HOA and various residents to the south expressed concerns some demanded poured concrete, which the city phased out in the eighties. However, the city has a department that still does special projects and is slated for review in 2029.
I did my best to gather some 850 signatures and harass the city officials to get it done. The city was prepared to do the whole thing until there were complaints.
Hollywoodland's section of Hollyridge, with its historic stairs, is now walkable, drivable, and rollerskateable. I would have loved nothing more than to do the 3.5-mile hike all the way down, but that's someone else's fight to take on. I hand over the baton.
