To quote Albert Einstein , “ The unleashed power of the atom has changed everything save our modes of thinking and we thus drift toward unparalleled catastrophe”. Nuclear weapons were created by humans and humans have a choice to keep it or eradicate the weapons of mass destruction from earth. Will you join me in supporting nuclear disarmament?  
       We have had two wars where nuclear technology had devastating impacts that are still being felt, even today.   We might hear arguments that are against nuclear disarmament. Critics might claim that the  weapons serve as deterrents for global conflicts and reduce the threat to a country’s military forces, or  they may bring up the numerous beneficial technologies like nuclear power or medicines created from the concept of fission and fusion.  
       First , nuclear weapons, the most dangerous mass destruction weapons on earth are obsolete and dangerous purely from their existence, let alone their usage and testing . Used twice in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, a quarter million civilians were incinerated in an instant. They cannot act as deterrents  or provide defense against the main threats of our era, such as climate change, food shortage , terrorism or cyber-attacks. They are pointless !

   Secondly, the budgetary expenditure related to nuclear weapons is constantly on the rise . It was close to $1000 billion for the decade of 2010-2020, according to Global Zero. It is logical that, for example, $82.4 billion , or $156,000 per minute spent on nuclear weapons in 2021, according to the Informed Consent Action Network in Geneva, could have instead solved global crisis with food development, and cured global hunger overnight. 
     Finally , They deplete valuable non-renewable sources like Uranium or Plutonium  from earth and serve as a constant threat. Russia’s recent explicit threats to use the weapons in its war with Ukraine, responses from the USA NATO implying retaliation, or North Korea’s implied and direct threats to South Korea ,  loom large as a possibility of a global catastrophe. Don’t we all want certainty of safety ?

    It is time to Act now - Analysts for the Bulletin of Atomic Scientists calculated that a child born today is unlikely to live out their natural lives without seeing nuclear devastation. I am positive all of you would not want to see devastation in your lifetime.
         To summarize , I urge you to support nuclear disarmament and galvanize yourself into taking action , today, right now to eradicate nuclear weapons from earth.
