Equip California Military Institute with a Turf Field and Track

Equip California Military Institute with a Turf Field and Track
The Issue
The parents, guardians and community members of California Military Institute (CMI), respectfully petition the school board and district administration to allocate funds for the installation of artificial turf field at our school.
CMI is currently the ONLY school in our district without a proper field surface, neither natural grass nor artificial turf. We have safety hazards; our student athletes regularly sustain injuries directly related to the poor condition.
Our athletes are missing more class time due to travel to acceptable facility locations. We are also wasting funds that could be directly applied to updates on busing. We have limited functionality for school events, especially graduation ceremonies. This inequality in facility standards is blatant, our students often feel less than because of this. All students deserve to feel safe, proud and have the equal opportunity to achieve academic scholarship success on their campus.
CMI consistently has the highest parent engagement in the district. We place high value on student and family engagement. Having to go to a different site for graduation creates undue stress on families for transportation challenges. The offsite graduations also sent the message to our students that their academic achievements merit celebration elsewhere, not at their own school. This diminishes our school indemnity and pride.
We respectfully request that the school board and district administration:
- Prioritize funding for the installation of a proper artificial turf field at CMI no later than the next budget cycle.
- Provide a timeline for planning, approving and completing this project.
- Consider creative funding solutions, including grants, bonds and community partnerships to expedite this process.
Please sign our petition to show the Perris Union High School district that CMI deserves equality, safety and preservation of education without unnecessary sacrifice from our student athletes.
