This petition emerges from the compelling belief that we are all created equal. As a person deeply concerned about the disparities in compensations between our brave police officers and our service men and women in the military, this issue is personally very important to me. Our military personnel receive decent salaries for their service in war overseas. However, our police officers who often face challenges akin to war within our borders are inadequately compensated.

There seems to be an unjust imbalance here. It's unsettling to know that police officers in the United States, who risk their lives daily, earn considerably less. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual wage for police and detectives in May 2020 was $67,290, a considerable contrast to an average military officer who makes about $101,000 a year, as reported by Defense Finance and Accounting Services (DFAS).

The objective of this petition is to show our unwavering support for the hard-working police officers who work tirelessly to ensure our safety and security on home soil. Furthermore, it is a call to our lawmakers to enforce a reform that equalizes the salaries of our police officers with that of our military personnel, in alignment with the principle that all men are created equal, and therefore should receive equal pay for equal sacrifice and service.
