Dress Code Equality

Dress Code Equality
The Issue
As someone who has personally experienced the gender bias in workplace dress codes, I am calling for a change! Women are allowed to wear hosiery with skirts to thier jobs, but men cannot wear kilts in most corporate settings. This is not just about fashion or personal comfort, it's about equality and non-discrimination. According to a study by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM), 55% of organizations still have different dress codes for men and women. It's time we challenge these outdated norms and promote an inclusive environment, where everyone feels comfortable expressing individual choice of business attire.
Since 1959, women have been allowed (by law, Government Code Section 12947.5) the option of pants to work. This petition is to allow men the same option, but replacing a skirt with a kilt. Lawsuits have been won with the situation reversed, yet if a man wears a kilt to work he will most likely be sent home for the day or even fired.
In our Great Nation, this double standard has long been overlooked. Since professionally allowing women the privilege to choose between garments (regardless of Scottish heritage) while men must adhere to boring pants in the workplace is a form of sexism.
The new proposed dress code for offices shall include the amendment of "kilts are allowable for men" wherever it states that "pants (trousers) are allowable for women".
To reduce the stigma of our American culture to degrade men for wanting more clothing options at work, this new rule should be clearly stated in government and corporate dress code regulations and employee handbooks (in place of the currently vague "appropriate business attire required" that has previously dodged the debate altogether).
To be equal on all fronts, allowing menswear in the office to include the kilt will be upheld with the same amount of proffessionalism in attire as pants (trousers) are upheld for women in the workplace. The proposed new standard is to encourage equality for all. This change is also a good reminder to continue the same rights for everybody.
Please sign this petition to normalize skirted attire, as well as pants, for both genders at work!!!
