City Council to vote on Bridge Shelter tonight

Today the Vancouver City Council is voting on 1) approving a $1.3M bid to design the Bridge Shelter and 2) approving $6.5M to purchase the land for the Bridge Shelter. 

The address for the land, is 5313 NE 94th Ave. In researching this location, it was purchased in January 2022 for $3.M and then purchased in August 2024 for $161K. Yet the city has earmarked $6.5M for the purchase of this property.  

In reviewing the owners of the property, they are connected to Meals on Wheels. One of the pillars of Meals on Wheels is Meals 4 Kids, which addresses food insecurity of low-income families. Will they have a contract with Bridge Shelter? Is that why they purchased the property? 

All questions that our elected officials should be answering and questions we should be asking before they spend $16M for a location that will be finished in July 2026 (best case scenario).
