The Issue

I experienced abuse by a colleague. I followed every safeguarding process when I reported it. But instead of being protected, I was left exposed.

  • There was no neutral suspension. No risk assessment. No safeguarding plan. Because of his title, his reputation was protected, mine was not

  • This is not just my story. It is happening across the NHS staff being silenced, retraumatised, and left at risk because safeguarding responses are not applied equally.

  • We are calling for a Universal Safeguarding Suspension Policy (USSP), a rule that applies to everyone, regardless of job title or seniority, when allegations of assault, abuse, or domestic violence are made.

We are also calling for:

  • Trauma-informed safeguarding training at every level of the NHS

  • Accountability to the NHS Domestic Abuse and Sexual Violence Charter

  • A survivor-led national safeguarding oversight board

  • Public transparency and a cultural shift led by leadership

1 in 4 people are affected by abuse. Yet even with clear policies in place, too many survivors are left unprotected, especially when the person they report holds power.

This campaign is not about one person. It’s about ending silence. Ending double standards. And protecting every NHS staff member and patient with fairness, integrity, and truth.

We have submitted this to Parliament, NHS England, and national safeguarding leads.

Now we need your voice too.
