Friends, we are gaining strong support. Let us not step back until the unjustified EPF rules are rolled back. What do the following imply to you?
1) The reason given for proposing tax on EPF withdrawals, which of course is withdrawn now, is to achieve a pensioned society. And as per the proposal, that tax does not apply to EPF members earning below 15,000 basic salary per month and it looks like the GPF (for govt employees) is also exempted. Why this disparity? If the sole purpose of taxing EPF withdrawal is to provide pension, provide it for all. https://goo.gl/lo2sld
2) Also, it was said that many high income earning members of EPF are exploiting the EPF scheme through VPF. If that is not desired then do not make the EPF membership mandatory and provide an opt out option for the existing members. Why this is not being done?
Note that not many people belong to the group of high income earning EPF members at the beginning of their career but become one as they move up the career ladder.
3) What the Govt intends to achieve by not allowing withdrawal of employer contribution before retirement? To leave some corpus for the employee to be used post retirement? What is the use of that corpus if the employee is dying now as he or she is not able to access that corpus when needed to take care of himself or herself or the dependents?
