In Early June, the government of Norway banned the practice of deforestation - a huge first step in creating a better and more sustainable Earth. However, despite leading the world in scientific research and technology, the United States has yet to help lead by example. But, with our signatures, we can change that. Deforestation has obvious impacts upon the planet, yet it is a practice that many of us just ignore. While it can provide us with helpful everyday items, these aforementioned items only account for less than half of all trees that are cut down. Forests are the homes of millions of different species of animals, insects, and plants. When we clear a forest, the natural habitats of these living creatures is taken away from them. Given this situation, it can, will, and has killed countless members of these organism's species. However, it doesn't just stop there. The clearing of trees can cause an increase in the levels of carbon dioxide, which can aggravate global warming. As the global temperature rises, so does the temperature of the ocean's waters. This change in the water temperature will likely kill cold water marine life, thus driving even more species into extinction. Warmer global temperatures will also affect many different pollinators, such as bees and hummingbirds. Without these organisms, we will likely face a quickly dwindling food supply. Climate change would also cause a rise in the sea levels, which would cause many of the world's islands, as well as coastal lands, to become submerged.  These are just a couple of the many dangerous consequences we face if we do not take any action as soon as possible.
