The Issue

It has come to our attention that the  barn management practices within the FFA and 4H programs in Boerne are not always supportive of all agriculture students. These programs are essential for nurturing young minds interested in agriculture, teaching them critical skills and imparting values such as hard work, responsibility, and teamwork. Therefore, it is imperative that these programs uphold the highest standards of fairness and inclusivity.

There are concerns about bias management and student support. Additional concerns have been mentioned about how resources and opportunities are allocated to students participating in the FFA and 4H programs at the barn in Boerne. Such unfair practices undermine the very essence of these educational programs, which are designed to empower all students equally, providing them with a nurturing and supportive learning environment to thrive in their agricultural pursuits. There are two paid positions for Barn Manager and Assistant Barn Manager in Boerne. Both current managers are affiliated with Boerne High. This barn is comprised of students and their animals from Boerne High, Boerne Champion High, and 4H.

To address these issues, we propose the following actionable changes, policies and practices.

1.

Option A- The Barn Manager and Assistant Barn Manager Positions be filled by 1 representative from Boerne High and 1 representative from Boerne Champion High.

Option B- Both positions be filled by someone with the appropriate agricultural experience that is unaffiliated with either school.

2. Implement transparent guidelines and policies to ensure fair resource allocation and opportunity access for all students.

3. Establish a monitoring committee comprised of parents from both schools, educators from each related program, and independent experts to oversee and report on the management of the barn.

4. Provide regular training and workshops for Barn Management.

5. Create a feedback mechanism where students and parents can anonymously report concerns or suggestions regarding the management's practices.

We believe that by taking these steps, we can create a supportive, unbiased, and healthy learning environment for all students involved in FFA and 4H. Sign this petition to advocate for these necessary changes and support a fair learning atmosphere for future generations of agriculture students in Boerne. Together, we can ensure that every student has the opportunity to grow and succeed in a fair and equitable educational setting.

Please join us in signing this petition for positive change to ensure unbiased management practices in Boerne’s FFA and 4H programs at our barn.
