The situation with PPE on the NHS frontline has been worsening for weeks, we now have the suggestion that we should re-use PPE.
Frontline NHS staff are putting their lives on the line every time they turn up to work in the fight against COVID-19.
DAUK has been lobbying for months for adequate personal protective equipment in our #ProtectTheFrontline campaign.
Despite our efforts and multiple reassurances the PPE situation has now become dire.
Today DAUK have heard a hospital in London may run out of gowns this weekend. These are absolutely vital for doctors and nurses in the most high risk areas. Public Health England are advising us to re-use single use items, how can we be sure that these are clean?
Doctors and nurses and other allied health and social care professionals will be risking their lives this weekend looking after patients regardless of the increased risk of reusing gowns.
The Doctors’ Association UK is now calling for a full public inquiry into the government’s failure to source adequate PPE and protect frontline NHS and Social Care staff.
We need a commitment to this now, with a full inquiry to be launched once the COVID-19 crisis is over.
Thank you so much for your support.
