Overview

Villa Park has recently been placed on the international stage following the decision to ban Maccabi Tel Aviv fans from the Aston Villa fixture. This decision has drawn attention from media and football communities worldwide, highlighting potential political tensions surrounding the match.

Given these developments, we have reason to believe that politically motivated protests or counter-protests may occur, creating a heightened risk to the safety of fans, staff, and local residents.

We are calling on West Midlands Police to ensure that public safety is paramount and that policing measures are applied fairly and consistently, in line with the standards used for other political events.

Our Call

We respectfully request that West Midlands Police:

Issue a Section 14 order under the Public Order Act 1986 for the entire event period at Villa Park;

Establish a buffer zone around the stadium to prevent politically motivated protests or counter-protests. 

Ensure policing is consistent with previous public order measures applied to political gatherings, which have been used in the past. 

Prioritise the safety of fans above all, while allowing peaceful expression in appropriate contexts away from the stadium.

Why This Matters

Villa Park is now under international attention, increasing the likelihood of political demonstrations.

Football fans should not be placed at risk due to these tensions.
Safety must be paramount — supporters, families, and local residents deserve protection.
Consistency in policing ensures fairness; if political events can be regulated, the same standards should apply to demonstrations that could disrupt the fans around the stadium.

This petition is not about restricting free speech or targeting any group. It is about ensuring public safety and fair, professional policing.
