As a student, the recent collapse of a paying guest accommodation where nearly 50 people were present instilled a profound concern in me. Though I do not personally reside in a PG, the tragic event highlighted a terrifying reality the vulnerability of students like myself who often have to depend on rental accommodations. It's disheartening to think about the many young learners who live far from home, striving for education, only to face the risk of unsafe living conditions.

Every student deserves more than just a room,we deserve a safe haven, a place where we can focus on our studies without fearing for our lives. The unfortunate incident serves as a wake up call for our educational institutions and local authorities to step up and ensure the safety and wellbeing of their student communities.

Numerous institutions across the country, including those in our own region, have often overlooked the fundamental need for student housing. Overcrowding, lack of maintenance, and non-compliance with safety regulations are rampant issues that cannot be ignored any longer. It's time these critical matters receive the attention they deserve.

We propose a comprehensive solution: the construction of institution-managed hostels that are safe, affordable, and comply with all necessary safety norms. These hostels would not only provide secure living conditions but also foster a supportive environment crucial for academic and personal growth. To ensure sustained safety, regular inspections should be mandated by the institution and carried out in coordination with local building safety authorities.

Moreover, implementing affordable pricing strategies will ensure that accommodation costs do not become a barrier to education for any student. Accommodations should be subsidized or priced according to the economic conditions of the student body, allowing equal opportunity for all.

We urge our educational institutions, local government, and concerned authorities to prioritize this issue immediately. By doing so, they would send a strong message of care and responsibility towards the student community, setting a benchmark for other regions to follow.
