Ensure proper hostel amenities and maintenance
Ensure proper hostel amenities and maintenance
The Issue
A hostel is meant to be a safe, clean, and productive environment for students to live and study. However, the current living conditions in the SVNIT hostels have deteriorated to an unacceptable and unsafe level. As residents, we are facing severe infrastructural, hygienic, and technical failures that are directly impacting our physical health, mental well-being, and academic performance.
Despite bringing these matters up in the past, we continue to suffer from the following ongoing issues:
1. Toxic and Contaminated Water Supply (CRITICAL)
The most urgent and life-threatening issue we currently face is the extremely poor quality of water provided for both drinking and bathing. The water being supplied is consistently yellowish, foul-smelling, and visibly contaminated with floating particles. Forcing students to consume and bathe in this unsanitary water is a severe health hazard and a direct violation of basic living standards, leaving the entire hostel vulnerable to severe waterborne diseases.
2. Severe Hygiene and Cleanliness Failures
Basic sanitation is a fundamental right, yet our hostels suffer from highly irregular and inadequate cleaning. Washrooms and common areas are often left in unhygienic states, compounding the health risks caused by the contaminated water and increasing the likelihood of vector-borne diseases among the inmates.
3. Crumbling Infrastructure (Broken Walls, Doors, and Nets)
The physical infrastructure of our rooms and corridors is falling apart. We are dealing with:
Broken Doors: Compromising our privacy and the security of our belongings.
Damaged Walls: Peeling plaster and structural decay that make the living spaces unsafe and unlivable.
Torn/Missing Window Nets: Leaving us completely exposed to mosquitoes and insect infestations, making it impossible to sleep or study peacefully at night.
4. Broken LAN Connections and Network Outages
As engineering students, a reliable internet connection is not a luxury; it is a strict academic necessity. The persistent broken LAN connections and overall network instability have caused us massive setbacks. We are unable to download necessary software, participate in technical competitions, complete heavy simulation projects, or submit academic assignments on time. This is causing significant academic and professional loss to the student community.
Our Demands:
We request the SVNIT Administration and Hostel Management to take immediate, transparent action on the following:
Immediate Water Crisis Resolution: Urgent cleaning of all hostel water tanks, immediate repair or installation of commercial RO water purification systems, and transparent water quality testing to ensure safe water for drinking and bathing.
Infrastructure Audit & Repair: Fix all broken doors, walls, and window nets within a strict, publicly shared deadline.
Sanitation Overhaul: Implement and strictly monitor a daily, thorough cleaning schedule for all washrooms, corridors, and common spaces.
Network Restoration: Immediately repair and upgrade the hostel LAN infrastructure to provide stable, uninterrupted internet access to all rooms.
Accountability: Establish a transparent grievance redressal system where maintenance tickets are tracked and resolved within 48 hours.
We are paying for basic amenities that we are simply not receiving. We urge the administration to prioritize student welfare and resolve these issues immediately.
