Ensure ex-priest paedophile serves full sentence

The Issue

Paedophiles are abhorrent and must serve their full sentences to uphold justice and protect our communities from further harm. As someone who deeply values the safety and well-being of our children, I am profoundly disturbed by the prospect that convicted paedophile Alexander Bede Walsh might not serve his full 22-year sentence.

Alexander Bede Walsh, also known as Father Bede, was convicted of sexually assaulting children in the 1980s across Coventry, Warwickshire, and Staffordshire. In January of this year, after a trial at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, he was convicted yet again of indecent assault involving a new victim. Despite these heinous crimes, Walsh has only served 14 years of his 22-year sentence.

Our justice system is designed to protect the vulnerable and punish those who exploit and harm innocent lives. By serving his complete sentence, Walsh would not only be giving justice to his victims but also demonstrating our collective commitment to the rule of law.

Statistics from the UK Ministry of Justice suggest that releasing offenders early can lead to a greater risk of re-offending, particularly in sexual crimes. This is an unacceptable risk for our communities. Every child deserves to grow up in a safe environment, and this safety is jeopardised when convicted sexual predators are allowed to return to society prematurely.

Furthermore, true justice is served when sentences are fully realised, ensuring that the punishment truly fits the crime. Letting Walsh serve anything less than his full sentence could set a dangerous precedent, potentially minimising the severity of child sexual abuse in the eyes of future offenders and within the justice system itself.

We must stand together, for the sake of all current and potential future victims, to insist that Alexander Bede Walsh serves the entirety of the 22-year sentence that was originally deemed appropriate for his vile actions.

Sign this petition to urge the authorities to ensure that all legal measures are taken to see that Walsh remains in prison for his full sentence. Let's protect our children and uphold justice by enforcing the full extent of the law.
