The Issue

My friend's children have profound needs that prevent them from attending mainstream schools. Despite this, they still cannot secure a placement at a Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) provision. This situation is not unique, as countless parents face this heart-wrenching dilemma across the country.

Education is a fundamental right for every child, yet many SEND children are being denied this right due to a lack of resources and support. According to government data, over 1.37 million children in the UK have some form of special educational need. However, many of these children are struggling to find suitable placements in educational institutions that can address their specific requirements.

Without proper education, SEND children miss out on opportunities to develop essential life skills and reach their full potential. They deserve the chance to learn in an environment tailored to their needs, where they can flourish alongside their peers.

We must address this systemic issue by increasing funding for SEND provisions, expanding existing facilities, and ensuring that schools have the necessary resources to accommodate children with special educational needs. Moreover, policies should be revised to prioritise the inclusion and education of all SEND children.

We call upon the government and educational authorities to take immediate action to improve the accessibility and quality of education for SEND children across the nation. Every child deserves the right to learn and grow in a supportive environment.

Please sign this petition to ensure that all SEND children have equitable access to education and the opportunity to thrive.
