A summary of what this election result means for you in a changing Burnt Oak:
- Labour now control all 3 levels of government and all 3 Burnt Oak councillors are Labour. This means they have a mandate to stand up to developers, and have the power so they can follow through on this promise 2 years on. (They might say it will take a while to undo the mess they have been left by 14 years of Conservative)
- Bob Blackman who recently campaigned against Ballymore and TfL's scheme for Edgware's car park and bus station, has been re-elected but finds himself in opposition alongside councillors in Edgware, Mill Hill, and Totteridge common.
- The new Labour MP was asked about developments in Edgware and has met with Ballymore to tell them that it is too much density and should have more affordable housing, more parking and more infrastructure.
- The new deputy prime minister for levelling up (local government), housing and communities is Angela Rayner - someone who actually has experience of living in a council house.
- Labour have to deliver a manifesto that promised the highest economic growth, driven by foreign direct investment, unblocking the planning system, and being more competent managers - a safe pair of hands.
- The pre-election period is over which means that the developers will push forward with bringing their plans to public consultation. Watch out! more information will be posted by them on https://www.edgwaretowncentre.uk/consultation https://wcp-consultation.co.uk/ and https://www.engage.barnet.gov.uk/ There are plans for flats to be developed on the Bunns Lane Carpark site by the railway station.
