Ensure a transparent investigation and fair trial for Tanzil Jahan Tamim

Ensure a transparent investigation and fair trial for Tanzil Jahan Tamim
The Issue
We, the undersigned citizens and members of the global community, express our deep concern regarding the murder of journalist Tanzil Jahan Tamim.
This tragic incident has raised serious public interest and concern. As responsible citizens, we firmly believe that justice must be served through a transparent, impartial, and timely legal process.
According to publicly available news reports, a criminal case has been filed and multiple individuals have been named as accused. As per the Constitution and the rule of law, every accused person is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a competent court of law. At the same time, it is the responsibility of the State to ensure that investigations and judicial proceedings remain free from political influence, intimidation, or administrative interference.
Therefore, we respectfully demand:
- A fully independent, impartial, and time-bound investigation conducted by competent authorities.
- Transparent disclosure of investigation progress within the limits permitted by law.
- Assurance that no individual, regardless of political position or influence, receives preferential treatment during the legal process.
- Protection of witnesses and the victim’s family to ensure fair testimony and due process.
- Administrative review, where legally applicable, to maintain public confidence in governance while the case remains under judicial consideration.
Justice delayed or compromised undermines public trust in democratic institutions. We believe that ensuring accountability in this case will reinforce Bangladesh’s commitment to the rule of law, human rights, and democratic values.
We urge the relevant authorities to act responsibly and transparently so that justice is not only done but is clearly seen to be done.
