The Issue

Needing medication for a child and not being able to help them is a hopeless feeling. We spend all of our time making sure they are cared for in every way ,but children get sick after 9pm.  Many residents in South Carolina face these challenges and risks due to the lack of 24-hour pharmacy services. According to a report by the South Carolina Department of Health, more than 56% of the population resides in areas with inadequate pharmacy access, particularly during night hours.

The absence of 24-hour pharmacies limits our ability to promptly access essential medications during emergencies, potentially endangering lives. This issue is especially pressing for parents, elderly individuals, and those with chronic illnesses who rely on timely medication intake. Without around-the-clock pharmacy options, we are left to resort to emergency care facilities for non-critical health issues, overburdening these resources and incurring significant expenses.

We are urging state legislators and pharmacy chains in South Carolina to recognize the need for better pharmaceutical access and implement changes that ensure at least one 24-hour pharmacy or an emergency pharmacy service is available within every county. This solution is both feasible and necessary. By allocating resources to establish strategically located 24-hour or emergency pharmacy services, we can significantly improve healthcare accessibility, ultimately leading to enhanced community wellbeing and reduced strain on emergency services.

Your support is crucial in advocating for this essential service. Let's unite as a community to bring about this change and provide peace of mind to families across South Carolina. Please sign this petition to demand the establishment of 24-hour or emergency pharmacy access throughout our state.

Please sign and share this petition if you believe that access to medication should not depend on the time of day.

We urge our state legislators, the South Carolina Board of Pharmacy, and healthcare leaders to address this gap and protect patients across our state.
