Traffic Controller’s LIVES MATTER

Traffic Controller’s LIVES MATTER
The issue
Traffic Controllers need help and protection when dealing with live traffic on a daily basis. This latest incident where a TC young father of 2 , has had to have his leg amputated! The death of 2 other Traffic Controllers within the last year, and 211 KILLED working on our roads between 2015/2019!! As reported on 9 news... THIS should be an indication that something needs to be done. We need to be helped and assisted by W.A Police when needed and should be considered as a high priority when our efforts to slow traffic, when necessary are unsuccessful. We only have the power to put up signs and set an area up as matching to a already drawn up diagram. Sometimes this is not effective enough to be sufficient in slowing down motorists. WE deserve to be either helped in situations that are out of our control or given the right to some authority to protect our own lives. We deserve to be able to do our job without the unguarded risk we may be instantly killed. A police presence/ and or any enforcement of speed or related instruments would be a benefit to the safety of the workers and public around sites, could aid in potentially saving of our lives. ALSO it would benefit the police as they can enforce penalties to people who ignore the traffic speeds, that we are prevented by law to have any authority over.
We can change speed signs by law, but we cannot and do not have any authority to enforce this, and are left powerless to protect ourselves. As the police do, we are appealing for their help to stand with us, or stand behind us, to allow ourselves to be able “to protect ourselves”, only when needed. Also we are demanding to be considered a PRIORITY in the safety of everyone involved in road work sights.
How can we protect the workers and the public. When we are legally not allowed to enforce anything to protect our own lives? If this is not possible then where are the Police to help protect us when we request it?
Please consider our plea, we want to go home at end of our shifts not to hospital or the mortuary.
Thankyou
