Enhancing Indoor air quality standards in India
The Issue
Every winter, we look at the outdoor smog in our cities and rush indoors to malls, movie theatres, and hospitals, thinking we are safe. But indoor air can often be worse than outdoor air.
Because these commercial spaces are completely sealed, they frequently recirculate stale air to save on electricity. To make matters worse, many theatres and shopping complexes pump massive amounts of synthetic chemical diffusers and air fresheners into their vents to mask dampness. This releases dangerous Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) and traps high levels of Carbon Dioxide (CO₂), triggering immediate headaches, asthma attacks, and respiratory distress in children, the elderly, and sensitive citizens.
Currently, building managements have zero accountability. They can shut off fresh-air ventilation, and the public would never know.
We are petitioning the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change to mandate that all large commercial complexes, enclosed theatres, and hospitals must install and publicly display real-time indoor air quality monitors at their entrances.
If food packages must display ingredients and restaurants must show hygiene ratings, why should the air we breathe for hours inside a cinema hall remain a secret? Publicly displaying PM2.5, CO₂, and VOC levels will force managements to run proper air filtration systems and stop poisoning our indoor breathing zones with artificial fragrances.
Please sign this petition to demand transparency, breathability, and basic health safety inside public commercial spaces. Your signature can force a policy shift for cleaner AIR
Please sign this petition and stand with us in our fight for breathable air for all.
