Enhance Victorville Streets for Pedestrian Safety to Prevent another Avoidable Death

The Issue

On April 30th, 2025 A Beloved Husband, Father, Son, Brother, and Uncle who loved to sing, was tragically taken from us while riding his mobility scooter early in the morning on Monte Vista Rd between Dos Palmas Rd and Palmdale Rd. He was struck by a truck going too fast in a residential area, a place where he should have felt safe. This devastating incident underscores the urgent need for improved street safety measures including speed enforcement to keep pedestrians and driver's safe in Victorville, CA.

Victorville, a community that values every member, deserves safer streets for all, especially the elderly, disabled, and children who are most vulnerable. Current conditions lack sufficient streetlights, sidewalks, and speed limit signs, which are essential to protect pedestrians and prevent further tragedies. If these safety measures had been in place and sufficient our loved one would still be here with us.

Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reveal that pedestrian deaths have drastically increased, showing a 45% rise over the last decade . Locally, Victorville has also seen a worrying trend in pedestrian accidents. Our streets should be a sanctuary, not a danger zone.

Implementing measures such as additional streetlights will provide better visibility during dark hours for pedestrians and driver's, sidewalks will offer a safe path separated from vehicle traffic, and clear speed limit signs with proper speed enforcement will deter vehicles from speeding, particularly in residential areas. These changes are not just necessary but overdue to prevent another family from having to endure the heartbreak and sudden loss that we are currently experiencing.

By taking action now, we can prevent future accidents and save lives. The loss we have endured should not be in vain. Let it be the catalyst for change in our community. Let's stand together to ensure that no other family has to suffer such a profound loss.

Sign this petition to hold the Victorville City Council accountable and urge local authorities to take swift action and prioritize the safety of all pedestrians in Victorville, CA. Together, we can make a difference and create a safer environment for everyone.

Sign and share this petition to bring about the necessary change to help prevent another family from enduring the pain and heartbreak we are currently experiencing.
