This heartbreaking incident serves as a grim reminder of the urgent need for traffic safety interventions.

Currently, Knapp Street near Ada Bible Church is a high-speed zone, with vehicles traveling at 55 mph, making it perilous for pedestrians and cyclists alike. Over the past few years, multiple accidents have occurred along this stretch, exposing the inadequacies in our local infrastructure and the pressing need for improved safety measures.

We are calling for the immediate implementation of a traffic signal or roundabout at this critical intersection. Additionally, reducing the speed limit from 55 mph to 35 mph will significantly enhance safety for all residents and visitors. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, reducing speed limits in residential areas drastically lowers the risk of accidents and increases driver reaction time, thereby saving lives.

Furthermore, introducing these safety measures aligns with Vision Zero strategies, which aim to eliminate all traffic fatalities and severe injuries while increasing safe, healthy, equitable mobility for all.
