Enhance Pediatric Services: Reduce Waiting Times and Improve Referal Risk Assessment

The Issue

My 10-year-old daughter endured prolonged periods of waiting within our pediatric services, an ordeal that no child should go through or thei families. Her story speaks to the need for systemic change across all facets of community pediatric care, CAHMS, and child mental health services.

According to a study by the American Academy of Pediatrics, long wait times have been linked to increased stress levels in children and caregivers alike, often leading to delayed diagnoses and worsening conditions. We are advocating for a comprehensive review of the current system, focusing on reducing these long waiting times and improving the quality of referal process with assessment by risk.

Furthermore, an evidence-based approach to risk assessment is of utmost importance. The UK National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidelines, for example, highlight the need for such an approach to ensure appropriate classification of patient conditions. Adopting a similar framework within our own system can help tailor care to individual needs and circumvent potential negligence.

We need responsible authorities to ensure that our pediatric services prioritize children's welfare above all else. We believe that by implementing these changes, the quality of care for all children in our system can greatly be improved, and no child, like my own, will have to endure needless suffering.

Please sign this petition to demand enhanced pediatric care that is timely and effective.
