Enhance GO transit service for Kitchener residents

The Issue

The current GO station location serving Kitchener–Waterloo may have worked 20 years ago, but it is no longer practical for today’s population. Limited parking, poor access, and severe morning traffic congestion make daily commuting difficult for thousands of residents who rely on GO Transit to reach jobs in Toronto. The surrounding road network simply cannot handle the volume of vehicles during peak morning hours, leading to delays and safety concerns.

For many households, the inconvenience goes further. Due to inadequate access and parking, commuters often depend on another family member to drop them off and pick them up from the station. This disrupts workdays for multiple people in the same household and discourages the use of public transit altogether.

Kitchener has grown significantly, yet transit infrastructure has not kept pace with current commuting realities. Many residents are forced to drive long distances or add unnecessary time to their journeys because the station is not located where people actually live and travel today.

We are calling for two practical improvements:

1. A new GO station along Victoria Road toward Guelph

This corridor has ample available land and would allow for proper commuter parking and easier access from expanding neighbourhoods. A station in this area would better serve Kitchener residents and reduce pressure on the existing downtown location.

2. Extension of the Milton GO Line to Kitchener

A direct Milton Line connection would reduce commute times by approximately 20–30 minutes for many riders. Since a large portion of Kitchener’s workforce is employed in Toronto, this extension would make public transit a realistic and competitive alternative to driving, easing highway congestion and improving quality of life.

Kitchener residents deserve transit infrastructure that reflects present-day needs and commuting patterns. We urge the City of Kitchener, Metrolinx, and provincial and federal representatives to take immediate action to improve GO Transit access for our community.

Please sign this petition to support better transit, shorter commutes, and smarter planning for Kitchener.
