Enhance Fathers' Rights in Family Court Regarding Child Support and Parenting Time

The Issue

I am a father who, along with my daughter, has suffered due to the neglectful decision-making of the family court system. Our story is not unique. Many fathers are denied fair rights concerning child support and parenting time, leading to strained relationships and financial hardships.

The current family court system often leans towards favoring mothers in custody battles. According to a study by Pew Research Center, only 17% of single parents awarded custody are men (Pew Research Center, 2018). This imbalance does not reflect the reality that many fathers are equally capable and willing to take on their parental responsibilities.

Furthermore, child support payments can be disproportionately high for many fathers. The U.S Census Bureau reports that noncustodial fathers pay an average of $5,760 annually in child support (U.S Census Bureau, 2016), an amount which can lead to significant financial strain for those with average or below-average incomes.

We need reform that ensures fairness in determining custody arrangements and child support payments. Fathers should have equal opportunities for parenting time and should not be financially crippled by unreasonable child support demands.

It's time we bring about change for all those affected by this issue - especially our children who deserve love from both parents without legal hindrances. Please sign this petition urging lawmakers to review and amend family court policies regarding fathers' rights around child support and parenting time.
