To avoid confusion, especially in teaching, and for convenience,and as the USA is a great, independent nation, and the people clearly have their own language, I propose that their language ceases to be referred to or known as American English, and be simply known as American. English would be known as English, and not British English.

Subsequently, countries outside of the United Kingdom and outside of the USA would then decide if they wished to be known as English-speaking or American-speaking, particularly if they are "English-speaking" nations or English is one of their main languages.
