UPDATE: Thank you to everyone who has signed. You’re proving that voters are watching BEFORE 2026.

WHY THIS PETITION MATTERS:

Right now political parties pick ward candidates behind closed doors. No public nominations. No community vetting. No merit checks.

The result? Councillors who can’t deliver basic services.

Across South Africa, communities live with:

- DRY TAPS: Families go days without water — Section 27 of the Constitution says water is a right.

- DANGEROUS POTHOLES: Taxis and ambulances get damaged daily. Jobs and emergency care get blocked.

- COLLAPSED INFRASTRUCTURE: Walls, bridges, and public spaces fall apart while children walk past them.

This isn’t bad luck. It’s bad candidate selection.

OUR DEMAND TO THE IEC & POLITICAL PARTIES:

For the 2026 local elections, implement open, merit-based candidate selection:

1. Publish candidate criteria for all to see

2. Allow public nominations from communities

3. Hold ward-level community vetting meetings

4. Choose based on qualifications, track record, and community service

5. Release merit scorecards so voters know why someone was picked

WHY NOW:

Candidate lists for 2026 are being drawn up soon. If we don’t fix the process now, we get 5 more years of dry taps, broken roads, and zero accountability.

HELP US HIT 10,000 SIGNATURES TO SUBMIT TO IEC & COGTA:

1. Share this with 5 voters on WhatsApp now

2. Tag @IECSouthAfrica + your ward councillor when you share

We vote. We pay taxes. We deserve councillors who can actually deliver services.

South Africans vote. South Africans remember.
