Today we sent to many addresses of press, television and broadcasting the following message under the heading "Tourists demand...!": Dear Sirs,
the Dominican Republic is visited every year by many tourists from Germany and a lot of other countries. During recent years though there has been an increasing number of complaints from tourists about dog poisonings and other forms of animal abuse. Again and again people have contacted the Association for Aid and Support of the Creole Dogs http://kreolischerhund.de/Intro.en.php which engages since 2009 in spay and neuter projects for Caribbean strays as alternative to mass poisonings. Even travel agents have told us about the complaints of their customers.
We have therefore started the petition "No more poison for Dominican dogs!" which has now more than 10.300 supporters:

Together with our supporters we ask the travel companies TUI.com GmbH, L'TUR Tourismus AG, Thomas Cook Touristik GmbH, SchauInsLand-Reisen, Jahn-Reisen, Meiers Weltreisen, Bucher, DER Tour, ITS, Jt Touristik, FTI, Studiosus Reisen München, alltours Flugreisen GmbH und 1,2 Fly Transeuropa Reisen to work together with us and try to convince the Dominican hotels they have business relations with to co-operate with us and our local partner organisation and accept our offer to:
Free spay and neuter of dogs and cats around the hotels and at beaches.
Further monitoring of the animals including medicare and vaccinations by our local partner organisations at feeding places that are acceptable to hotels and communities.
Providing information for touristsin form of flyers and brochures about the animal welfare work done locally, the responsible behaviour in dealing with strays and contact addresses of the nearest animal welfare organisation.
Advice about responsible handling of garbage.
On our website "Animal-friendly hotels in the Caribbean" http://kreolischerhund.de/Hotels.en.php we are introducing hotels where this is already practiced successfully.
Now, since our petition has reached more than the 10.000 signatures we aimed for, we will contact all of the travel companies mentioned above and ask for their assistence. Their answers will be conveyed to you.
Sincerely,
I. Gorski-Grobe
