During the months after our last spay neuter campaign in Boca Chica we were given several dates for the opening of the feeding station that were postponed each time. We felt desperate and didn't know what to tell you. Finally we know the reason: The location where the feeding station was planned shall be used commercially. A number of small shops shall be built there catering to the tourist at the nearby beach. A new place had to be found. It is near the Navy office which would offer best protection against vandalism. Project director Emily Espinosa has done an amazing job, the people of Boca Chica look forward to the beginning of the project as much as we do, the mayor even wants 2 stations, one at each end of the beach to serve all dogs which is very sensible - but when the installation of the station will finally happen we still don't know. In developing countries things happen usually slower than we are used to it but considering also the feelings of our supporters who might have lost their confidence by now and due to the fact that now, that the station has been built, financed by our crowdfunders, there is nothing we can do from here to speed up the beginning of the project we placed it completely into the hands of Emily Espinosa and her Dominican friends and concentrate on what we can do best: Spay & neuter! Which is a very important part of the project to make it become a lasting success! 2 campaigns are planned, an operative with Caribbean Spay Neuter next February where up to 500 dogs shall get spayed and neutered and even before a campaign for cats only with a German vet who spayed and neutered 193 cats for Cat Lovers RD in 2016 in Santo Domingo. A similar number is expected in Boca Chica. This happens due the request of 2 owners of big restaurants who have a "cat issue". 2 surveys have been made in Boca Chica after our last campaign in January with the following results: Most of the dogs spayed and neutered in 2018 have survived. In expectation of the "dog restaurant" project the attitude of the residents of Boca Chica towards animals appears to have improved already. Emily Espinosa saw a lot of dogs in good codition that seem to be fed by local people. Some of the strays even wore collars to show that they are accepted residents of the town. We have created a new site on our web site for Boca Chica where we will publish all developments. There you find also 2 PDFs with the bills for material and carpentry work for the construction of the dog reastaurant for which your donations, dear donators, were used: http://www.kreolischerhund.de/BocaChica.en.php
