Here where the "restaurant for dogs" shall open is still nothing to be seen But at long last we have finally news from Boca Chica! There the planned feeding station for beach dogs has become more than an ambitious animal welfare project, it has developed a political dimension. Pedro Lorenzo, in charge of the Youth department for the Ayuntamiento de Santo Domingo Este (East Santo Domingo Townhall) with good connections to Boca Chica Town hall, is very involved in the project and helping with the development. The mayor of Boca Chica is convinced of the benefits for his city and wants to see the project become reality. But the official course takes its time. A detailed documentation of the planned project had to be handed in; a further reason for the delay is the realization that a feeding station simply put up on the ground wouldn’t withstand the elements for a long time. Now a concrete foundation shall be constructed. Therefore an excavation is necessary which needs a special permit. While waiting on this permit, Emily and her helpers use the time to talk to the local residents about the feeding station to make sure it  won’t be vandalized or destroyed once installed. For further protection against deterioration because of its closeness to the sea the concrete floor of the feeding station will be covered with tiles.

Despite the long time it takes to realize all this we can be certain that the dogs are protected from mass poisonings as long as this project is supported officially from politicians and the local business people.

A little while ago we received an email from German residents living in Boca Chica that has pleased us very much:

“Dear Mrs Gorski-Grobe, as a German living in the Dominican Republic (Boca Chica) I want to thank you and your team very much for your work and the project here. As far as I can see there are already noticeable improvements after only one visit of your vets here and we are always happy to remember them when seeing dogs with yellow ear tags.”

The next operative in Boca Chica is already planned: At the beginning of January 2019 Anja Heß, Ingrid Stegemann, Alfred Huber and Dolores Rohrer will spay and neuter in Boca Chica, and not only there but also in the favela of Santo Domingo, in Alonse and San Juan…
